Veego Records presents the collection "9 Songs for Post-Greek Films" by Melentini, one of the most special Greek composers of her generation.
Melentini the past few years has been involved in the creation of Greek-language songs and soundtracks of contemporary Greek films. This is exactly the artistic aspect of the collection "9 Songs for Post-Greek Films. The collection is released on collectible vinyl (300 copies on 180 grams at 45 rpm for optimized playback quality) by Veego Records.
This is the first collection of Melentini's songs with Greek lyrics from soundtracks she composed for Greek contemporary films between 2013 and 2020. Her love for the movies started at university where she joined a group of cinephiles and discovered the great directors of the Italian Neorealism and French New Wave. As a child she was also influenced by her father, a simple man who had a big interest in movies of Theo Angelopoulos and Sergio Leone. She studied the piano and theory from a very early age, she graduated from the Conservatory and worked in education as a music teacher. After attending the Philosophical School of Athens she decided to drop her archaeological studies while she was performing in theater as a stage musician and actress. At the same time she was involved with different underground music bands in Athens as a singer and trumpet player. After a while she focused on writing and composing music for herself and started performing in various places and cities with her band, the Running Blue orchestra. In 2014 she moved to Berlin to explore new forms of the live arts and what is more to start a new life. Since then she has been collaborating with artists from different musical backgrounds. Feeling overwhelmed in a capital city like Berlin, she retained strong bonds with her hometown and her Greek fellow artists. Melentini has recorded and released 3 more studio albums so far. All of her work has remained independent as she never felt an allegiance to any particular scene.
The collection "9 Songs for Post-Greek Films" explores various musical horizons that Melentini followed in recent years, but above all it offers an acoustic experiential emotional experience which is connected by an invisible thread with her main discography.
The 9 songs come from 6 films of modern Greek cinema: "AFTERLOV", "Sad Girl Weekend", "VOUS", "Madonna f64.0", "Her Lover" and "Brothers".
