Charaktinou’s etchings and whimsical collages of cut paper and intricate hand-drawn illustrations are rich psychological self-portraits that express an enchanting inner world of fantastical creatures and dreamlike states.
Heavy with symbolism and mythological references, Charaktinou’s compositions are filled with the natural imagery of trees, leaves, shells, flowers, and real and imagined creatures of every kind.
Charaktinou uses fantasy to create highly surrealist works wrought with complex symbolism and emotional intensity. Anna Charaktinou studied Painting and Engraving at Athens School of Fine Arts, Stop motion and Engraving at University of Hildesheim in Germany and Painting and Graphic Design at Universität der Künste in Berlin.
She holds a Meisterschülerin ( PhD) degree in Painting from Universität der Künste Berlin. She lives and works in Berlin Germany and in Athens Greece.
